Spanierman Gallery, LLC is pleased to announce the opening of Jimmy Ernst: Five Decades of Paintings and Works
on Paper. One cannot come away from this exhibition of important
paintings and works on paper by Jimmy Ernst, created over the
course of five decades, without an enhanced appreciation for this
remarkable artist and for the considerable contribution he made
to American postwar and contemporary art. The forty works included—produced
between 1940 and his death in 1984—reveal the sweeping grandeur
and poetic eloquence of Ernst’s vision, which was predicated
on his firm belief in art’s transformative power and expressed
in a compelling vocabulary of forms and images.
