Spanierman Gallery, LLC is pleased to announce the
opening on January 23rd, 2006 of Vintage American Art, an exhibition
and sale of paintings, watercolors, and drawings by American artists
from the 1860s to the present. The works by more than sixty different
artists range in price from $1,700 to $15,000. Some of the prominent
artists in the show are: Robert C. Bates, Gershon Benjamin, Edward
Borein, Conrad Buff, Arthur Beecher Carles, Harry Chase, Dawson
Dawson-Watson, Sears Gallagher, John Graham, Henry Hitchings, Edith
M. Howes, Josephine E. Irving, Charles Salis Kaelin, Fletcher Martin,
Margaret Jordan Patterson, Joseph Raphael, and William Trost Richards.
In 2002 Spanierman Gallery held its first show featuring affordable
art for collectors who were either just beginning to build collections
or seeking to add to them. Due to the enthusiastic reception to
the exhibition, an annual tradition was begun, and this is now our
fifth show of its kind. Larger than those of the past four years,
this exhibition presents a wide variety of art, ranging from quickly
rendered studies to small-scale fully developed images, to vivid
modernist compositions.
For more than half a century Spanierman Gallery has been dedicated
to dealing in the finest nineteenth, and twentieth-century American
painting, presenting important exhibitions, including works on
loan from museums and private collections as well as works from
our own holdings. The gallery is distinguished for its scholarship
and actively supports research in American art, including sponsoring
the forthcoming catalogue raisonnés on the art of the American
Impressionists John Henry Twachtman, Theodore Robinson, and Willard
Metcalf. Recently the gallery published two volumes of The Lloyd
Goodrich, Edith Havens Goodrich and Whitney Museum of American
Art Catalogue Raisonné of the Work of Winslow Homer, and
is sponsoring the completion of this project. These publications
will be de?nitive reference sources on their respective artists.
